Buzzing for Milestones

Warming weather, light showers and the smell of flowers – you know spring is right around the corner! With spring comes one of our favorite holidays: Earth Day. But this April we have extra cause to celebrate. Not only is the Bayer Bee Care Center approaching its third anniversary of opening on April 15, 2014, but also, by April 20, 2017, we will have achieved the major milestone of hosting more than 10,000 visitors!

This will be the first time the 10,000th-visitor milestone has been reached by any similar institution globally1, and we are proud to accomplish this feat in such a short amount of time.

The students will tour the Bee Care Center while completing a scavenger hunt, share sweet treats, take a commemorative photo with Jim Blome, CEO of Bayer CropScience, and participate in an educational activity in the garden led by the Sweet Virginia Foundation.

The Sweet Virginia Foundation is our latest Feed a Bee partner helping to improve forage for pollinators. This organization strives to inspire elementary school students to care about honey bees and demonstrates honey bees’ importance through hands-on education. They use honey bees to help students understand the interconnectedness of life and Earth.

Additionally, the Bee Care Center will host Project PLANTS earlier during the week to help celebrate the milestone. Project PLANTS, which stands for Planting Leaders in Agriculture and Nature Through Science, is a 4-H of North Carolina program focused on increasing student interest in science and research.
